Our History

A brief history of Fairview Church, from it’s foundation in 1896 to present day.

  • In the year 1896, the Rev. T.H. Pegram organized the Fairview United Methodist Church under a brush arbor. It was connected with the Methodist Episcopal Church South.

  • In November 1896, Newton Marion gave the land upon which the first Church building was erected. The name “Fairview” came from the “fair view” of Pilot Mountain Knob from atop the hill.

  • In 1939, Fairview merged with the Methodist Conference.

  • In 1953, additional Sunday School rooms were added.

  • Another venture of faith was the erection of a new Church building, which began in 1973 and was completed in 1974.

The first worship service was held in the new Church on Sunday, May 26, 1974. The Rev. D. Edwin Bailey, District Superintendent, delivered the morning message and presided in the Acts of Consecration.

  • A new playground was built in 1998, located behind the buildings.

  • Our Preschool Program was established in 2008.

  • 2014 - Sanctuary Renovation

  • Our Parsonage was designed and renovated in 2021.

  • Fairview United Methodist Church became Fairview Church in 2023, following a membership vote to become Independent.

  • Offices were moved in order to create more space for our growing nursery and to add Sunday School classrooms in the Church.
