I love eating, anyone with me on that sentiment? I love large family gatherings around the table, I love Thanksgiving and potluck dinners at church. I like being with family and friends around the table, so did Jesus. So many of his stories, parables and teachings, happen around a table. Jesus was invited to the lowest of the lows house and the most well to do and thought of tables. Jesus sat with those mired in sin and those who thought they were religious enough to be above the sinners. Jesus was even accused of being a glutton, he liked his meals.

I think that’s why communion is so special. Jesus gathered his friends, they ate, and he shared with them his plan for their salvation. He ate with one who would betray him and one who would deny him. He ate with one who doubted the plan and those who would cower in fear. He ate with his friends, imperfect, messy and open. Communion is a meal at Jesus’ table gathered with imperfect, messy family and friends to remember all that he has done for us. So come hungry and thirsty!

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
